R. S. Peters

Biography

Richard Stanley Peters was a British philosopher who became a leading figure in the analytic philosophy of education at the University of London. His work helped establish philosophy of education as a rigorous academic field concerned with concepts, reasons, values, and public practice.

Educational Contribution

Peters argued that “education” is not a neutral label for any produced change. Calling a process educational normally implies that something worthwhile is being learned, that understanding is involved, and that methods respect awareness rather than merely condition behavior.
