Jerome Bruner

Biography

Jerome Bruner was an American psychologist whose career moved from perception and cognitive psychology to education, child development, law, narrative, and culture. He helped lead the “cognitive revolution,” challenging accounts that restricted psychology to observable behavior while ignoring how people represent and interpret the world.

Bruner argued that intellectually honest versions of powerful ideas can be taught at different developmental levels if represented appropriately. Curriculum should revisit central ideas with increasing depth rather than treat topics as completed after one exposure.
