Biography

Karl Raimund Popper was born on July 28, 1902, in Vienna, Austria, to a prosperous and cultured Jewish family that had converted to Lutheranism before his birth. His father, Simon Siegmund Carl Popper, was a lawyer and bibliophile with a vast library that nurtured the young Karl's intellectual curiosity. His mother, Jenny Schiff, came from a family of musicians and intellectuals. Popper grew up in an environment steeped in books, music, and political debate.
